In a surprising turn of events, RIM's twitter account stated that according to Future Shop and Best Buy, (2 of the largest electronic retailers) the playbook actually outsold the iPad. This is probably due to the fact that RIM recently released a software update which fixed several of the bugs in the first release. Also, Apple will probably be releasing its iPad 3 in the near future which has people forgetting about the iPad 2 at the moment, due to the distractions about the newest model. With that being said, the playbook was the number one selling tablet for a week. Plus one for RIM!

This also could be due to the fact the iPad 2 has been out for a while as well as most people who go to purchase an iPad will do so at the apple store. I agree however with you stating it could be due to the fact that playbook released a new operating system. I believe that would have affected this statistic as well.
ReplyDeleteWow that is pretty surprising! I have heard some good things about the playbook but I wouldn't have expected it to becoming an increasingly popular choice for the consumers.
ReplyDeleteI believe that when Ipad 3 comes out, Apple really needs to focus on making sure they differentiate their product as much as possible in order to sustain a competitive advantage over their small competition at the moment which is Playbook. If Apple does not make significant changes, then I believe that the Blackberry Playbook can use that as an advantage invest towards making their tablet user friendly and allow their users to have access to almost all the apps they would have on the ipad but for a cheaper price.
If Blackberry can make those improvements and at the same time sell their tablets for a cheaper price then Apple's Ipad then I believe that the Playbook will suddenly become a popular choice for the consumers therefore become a larger competition for Apple.
